STUDY ON IMACT EAILURE AND FRACTOGRAPHY FEATURE OF S-GF/EPOXY 648 LAMINATES

  • The results of impact resistance tests of S-GF/Ep648 composite laminates 09°/θ,show that their values are affected only by the time duration of their being soaked in boiling water,instead of by the lay-up angle θ.However,it is found that increasing the angle θ in a +θ8/-θ8 laminate subjected to low velocity impact loading results in greater delamination-type damage for a given incident energy.The fracture surfaces of specimens failed in a passing-through mode or/and in complete delamination or with impact damage were observed and analyzed respectively with the aid of a SEM-505 scanning electron microscope.The influential factors upon impact fracture and impact damage of the laminates are also discussed in this paper.
