Preparation and properties of the new type copper matrix pantograph slider

Abstract
A new type copper matrix pantograph slider was prepared by pressure sintering in vacuum. In this material, the oxide dispersion strengthened (ODS) copper was used as matrix and the copper-coated graphite as lubrication-component. The influence of sintering temperature on the relative density was studied; Effect of different matrix material on properties was researched; Properties including conductivity, impact toughness and friction coefficient of the graphite/ODS-Cu with 6%, 8%, 10%, and 12% mass fraction of graphite was studied. Results show that sintering temperature has large effect on the density. A fully dense material is achieved while the sintering temperature is 950 ℃. The mechanical properties increase by using the ODS copper powder as matrix. When the content of graphite is 10%, impact toughness of the samples with ODS copper as matrix is much higher than that of with non-ODS copper as matrix, while the conductivity has not much degradation. Conductivity and impact toughness of the material decrease drastically as the content of graphite increases, which reach to 0.65 μΩ·m and 6.8 J·cm-2 respectively with 10% graphite. Friction coefficient of the material decreases with the graphite content increasing, which is 0.231 with 10% graphite.
