Development of material constitutive model for the Nomex Kevlar plain woven fabric
-
Abstract
A linearly orthotropic constitutive model with maximum tensile stress failure criterion was developed by secondary development kit of LS-DYNA, and was coupled with Gruneison equation of state to describe the mechanic behaviors of Nomex-Kevlar plain woven fabric under the hypervelocity impact condition. A 3D numerical analysis model was created using LS-DYNA to simulate Al-2017-T4 spherical projectiles impacting Nomex-Kevlar plain woven fabric at 6.84km/s, 30° obliquity, which condition is as same as the test’s condition of NASA. Compared simulation results to test results, it shows that the developed material constitutive model and the numerical analysis model are suitable to describe the hypervelocity impact behaviors of Nomex-Kevlar plain woven fabric.
