C-TiO
2 composites were successfully prepared via sol-gel method with assistance of microcrystalline cellulose(CMC). The structure, components and morphology of C-TiO
2 composites have been fully studied. The results of XRD show that:C-TiO
2 composite has the structure of anatase with high crystallinity; the analyses of SEM, TEM and XPS give the evidence that cellulose has dual effects on the preparation of the C-TiO
2 composite:it is the precursor of carbon, and it also works as dispersant which makes TiO
2 well dispersive. The adsorption experiments of Cd
2+ has been carried out to evaluate the adsorption property by the C-TiO
2 composite. Compared with the TiO
2 prepared without cellulose, C-TiO
2 composite has high adsorption. The adsorption amount of Cd
2+ reaches 37.15 mgg
-1, which is 214.5% as higher as that without cellulose. At the same time, C-TiO
2 composite has excellent adsorption efficiency, which makes C-TiO
2 a good candidate for water treatment.
