STUDY ON THE MECHANICAL PROPERTIES OF CONTINUOUS GLASS FIBER REINFORCED POLY(PHENYLENE SULFIDE) COMPOSITES

Abstract
The domestic Poly (phenylene sulfide) (PPS) was cured in air at 270℃,and the melting behavior of PPS and CL-PPS (cured) as well as the processing and mechanical properties of their composites reinforced with glass fiber were studied in this paper. The results show that Tg and Tc of the resin increase after it is cured, but its Tm become lower. The prepreg of glass fiber reinforced PPS was manufactured by suspension-melting method. The mechanical properties of GF/CL-PPS composite such as impact strength, shear strength, flexural strength and flexural modulus are improved more than those of GF/YPS at room temperature, and they have very good chemical resistance. The mechanical properties of both GF/PPS and GF/CL-PPS change greatly within their glass transition temperature regions. SEM indicates that the fracture mainly occurs in the interface between glass fibers and PPS resin.
